School of Art
The mission of the School of Art is to provide a rigorous, student-centered education that emphasizes risk-taking and exploration. We graduate diverse artists and professionals who use their expertise with insight, enriching culture and the world. The School of Art's innovative, top-ranked, and internationally recognized graduate programs in Art and Design Education, Creative Arts Therapy, Creative Enterprise Leadership, Digital Arts and Animation, Fine Arts, and Photography bring together exceptional students who flourish in an intellectually rigorous community that supports self-direction and growth. Outstanding faculty and eminent visitors work individually with students as they synthesize research, theory, and practice in service to their vision and voice. Additionally, living and studying in New York City affords students unparalleled access to resources and opportunities.
The School of Art is dedicated to the transformative power of creativity, upholding processional standards, and developing creative leadership in a world that requires it. Two parallel objectives guide every department in the School of Art. One is the emphasis on students acquiring high-level skills, methodologies, and vocabulary required for success as creative professionals. The second objective—intertwined with the first—is to balance that professional proficiency with a highly developed critical judgment based on historical perspectives so that students become effective, responsible, and creative problem-solvers.
